India

On the Road: Rajasthan and Beyond

For two weeks we joined a group of photographers to visit several of the ‘must-see’ locations and events in and around the State of Rajasthan.  This included the annual Pushkar Camel Fair, the Kolayat Festival, the Golden Temple in Amritsar followed by a trip to the famous ghats along the Ganges River in Varanasi.  Rajasthan is home to some legendary cities including Jaipur and Jodphur, Udaipur and Jaisalmer, as well as the spectacular Thar Desert in the northwest.  Hindu, Muslim and Sikh faiths all have vibrant festivals and traditions that are a photographer’s dream.

This limited assortment of images does not begin to offer anywhere near a comprehensive visual journey through India.  What we have tried to do instead is to offer images that we feel capture some of the textures of daily life along with a sense of place, be it the desert or a religious festival or city street.

India is a country of extraordinary contrasts, amazing sights, sounds and color.  It is inhabited by over one billion people, each with a powerful story to tell.
